Allington Alligators

Allington based litter picking group. We are a small friendly group of like-minded individuals who care about our local environment and want to keep it clean and tidy.

Allington Millennium Green Trust

The Allington Millennium Green is managed by the Allington Millennium Green Trust, which is a group of volunteers whose main purpose is to create and maintain the area where people can enjoy nature and wildlife.

Bearsted Climate Action Network (CAN)

Bearsted CAN is about bringing together like-minded people from Bearsted and the surrounding area who want to work together to face the Climate and Ecological Emergency.

Bearsted Woodlands Trust

Bearsted Woodland Trust protects and maintains 26 acres of woodland and meadow, restoring and enhancing a natural habitat for animals and plants and providing a place of recreation for visitors.

Meetings

Join the maintenance volunteers whose work is of crucial value to keep running costs low. The Trust have regular workdays on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, meeting at 9.00 am at the tractor barn (south of the main entrance from the Church Landway) and finish at 12.00-12.30. Parking is available in the car park at the end of Church Lane.

Communigrow

Communigrow is a registered food education charity focused on reconnecting people to freshly grown food, the outdoor environment it comes from and the soil it grows in. They aim to teach people from all walks of life about how to grow their own food and reconnect with nature.

Meetings

Get involved in seasonal tasks, such as sowing, transplanting, repotting, weeding, digging, watering or harvesting. No experience is required to support growing activities. Wed-Fri 10am – 2pm,  Communigrow Centre, Park Farm, East Malling/Ditton, Maidstone, ME20 6PE.

Dandelion Time

A nature-based charity that works with children and their wider family to overcome issues and difficulties. Dandelion Time helps them find opportunities for change and rebuild relationships while creating happy memories along the way.

Join the friendly volunteer team and help make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children and their families. There are a number of ways you can volunteer with Dandelion Time including as a gardener and or maintenance volunteer.

Fant Wildlife Group

The Fant Wildlife Group is a charity of volunteers from the local community. The group was started to manage an area of abandoned allotment gardens close to the town centre. The aim of the group is to maintain and diversify the wildlife in the Fant Wildlife Area, to encourage educational use and local involvement.

Meetings

Volunteers meet on site 10am-12noon on the second Saturday of each month. The Fant Wildlife Area lies to the south of Upper Fant Road and is accessed from Roseholme Childrens Park.

Friends of South Park

The Friends of South Park are a group of volunteers that work with us in helping to maintain and improve the park. It started 14 years ago.

Meetings

Membership is open to anyone who uses the park and costs just £2.50 a year. Meetings are held about four times a year in the South Park pavilion. Meeting dates and times are displayed on the park notice boards and emailed to any members with email. Minutes of the meeting will be emailed out to everyone following the meeting. Armstrong Road, Maidstone, ME15 6AZ.

Friends of Weavering Heath and Woodlands

Friends of Weavering Heath and Woodlands was formed and recognised by Boxley Parish Council in November 2017 and organises regular local task days and litter picks. The group comprises of local Weavering and Grove Green residents working with Boxley Parish Council and our parks department.

Friends of Whatman Park

The Friends of Whatman Park are a group of volunteers who meet periodically in order to run task days, including conservation work such as pond dipping, building bat boxes and tree planting.

Hayle Park Nature Reserve

Hayle Park Nature Reserve Trust currently manages 60 acres of land within Tovil; Hayle Park Nature Reserve and Walnut Tree Meadows (the former tip site at Dean Street). The trust was established in 2014 by Maidstone Borough Council, Tovil Parish Council and the Valley Conservation Society.

Hollingbourne Meadows Trust

The Meadows Trust fights for the future of the countryside at Hollingbourne, planting, maintaining and preserving meadows, hedges and trees, encouraging the biodiversity of plants and animals, and making the majority of its land freely accessible for all to walk and enjoy.

Kent Scouts Lower Grange Farm

Kent Scout's activity centre at Lower Grange Farm is run by an amazing team of volunteers but there's always room for more! They have acquired an extra 30 acres of land and have developed big plans for the future, so now is a great time to get involved.

Kent Wildlife Trust

Kent Wildlife Trust is a conservation charity with more than 31,000 members and over 1000 registered volunteers. They manage and protect over 9000 acres of land across more than 80 different sites and nature reserves, alongside 3 visitor centres.

Maidstone and Kent wildlife and organic gardening group

This is an online wildlife & organic gardening group in Kent (based in Maidstone). I have been a wildlife gardener since 1990, printed a magazine called Wildlife gardening monthly for 4 years, and latterly gone into organic gardening. Wildlife gardens are for nature conservation, whilst organic gardening is aimed at producing good nutritious food. I also hope to arrange Face to face or zoom meetings.

Maidstone Eco Hub Group

Monthly meetings to discuss all things related to the climate emergency in the Maidstone/ central Kent area. We are also looking at ways of getting a repair café up & running, maybe with a shop as a base.

Marden Wildlife Group

A local wildlife group for Marden in the low weald of Kent. The group help to collect detailed information about the wildlife in Marden for scientific research and to inform conservation decisions.

Marden Wildlife Group invite people to explore, record, conserve and, above all, enjoy the plants and animals to be found in the parish.

Medway Valley Countryside Partnership

A non-profit organisation, based in Maidstone, dedicated to environmental conservation in the boroughs of Maidstone and Tonbridge and Malling.

Meetings

Tuesday/Thursday Action Group volunteers help staff to deliver important conservation projects across the MVCP area. Projects are varied in type and location, and include pond creation, building woodland steps and paths, wildlife gardening and much more.

River Warden volunteers help to keep the river paths clean and safe. The River Warden Volunteers work when they can so this volunteering opportunity is great for people with less time to commit to volunteering.

Mote Park Fellowship

The Mote Park Fellowship is a group of volunteers who look after and maintain Mote Park in cooperation with the council. Covering over 180 hectares, the park is freely accessible to the public and requires constant work to maintain.

Meetings

The group meets one a month at the beautiful Mote House within Mote Park. This is an ideal opportunity to meet with representatives from Maidstone Borough Council to ensure that the park is a safe environment and to update both teams on current projects. We are always open to new members, including those from other organisations within the park, so this is an ideal opportunity for the group to act on behalf of the park as a whole.

Rewilding and regenerative farming Kent

This group is for anyone in Kent who is interested in Rewilding their own bit of land in Kent, no matter how big or small. All rewilding will be discussed, with the emphasis on Kent, but also the UK & the world, as rewilding needs to be looked at as a way of conservation that transcends borders. The group is also working on a project to restore a small area of degraded chalk grassland in Wouldham, and need more volunteers than we have.

RSPB Maidstone Local Group

The RSPB local group for the Maidstone area. RSPB local groups are a great way to meet friendly, like-minded people in your area while learning more about birds and other wildlife.

Meetings

The group holds monthly talks from a range of speakers, usually on the third Thursday of each month. The programme also includes outdoor field trips to some great locations.  Indoor meetings start at 7.30pm and cost £3.50 for local group members and £4.50 for non-members. The indoor talks are held at Grove Green Community Hall, Penhurst Close, Grove Green, Bearsted, ME14 5BT.

Valley Conservation Society

Valley Conservation Society protect and enhance the valleys of South Maidstone for the benefit of residents, wildlife and visitors.

Meetings

There are regular working parties every Tuesday and occasional weekends, where volunteers undertake practical conservation work in the Loose Valley and the surrounding footpath network.

Vinters Valley Nature Reserve

Vinters Valley Nature Reserve is a local wildlife oasis tucked away between the Vinters Park and Grove Green housing estates.

Walderslade Woodlands Group

Walderslade Woodlands Group is a volunteer group that help maintain the three valleys and five plateaux that make up the Walderslade.

Meetings

A group of local residents who meet for a few hours each week (usually the mornings of Tuesdays and Thursdays) to carry out conservation and maintenance work in the local woodlands. Called “Task Days” these are good fun and a great opportunity to meet like minded people.
